Rediscovering the Magic of Willy Wonka

First released in 1971, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is based on Roald Dahl’s famous novel and tells the story of Charlie Bucket, a kind-hearted boy who wins a golden ticket to tour the mysterious chocolate factory owned by the eccentric Willy Wonka. The film is known for its vibrant visual style, imaginative world-building, and unforgettable characters — from the Oompa Loompas to Grandpa Joe. This new LED dome version invites audiences to relive the magic in a fully immersive environment.

What Makes Cosm’s 12K+ LED Domes Unique

Cosm’s 12K+ LED domes, measuring 27 meters in diameter, offer a completely enveloping audiovisual environment. The dome screen stretches over and around the audience, removing the boundaries of a traditional theater and replacing them with a seamless digital canvas. With crystal-clear resolution and dynamic sound, these domes create what Cosm calls a “shared reality” — a fully immersive group experience.

The project is developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures, Little Cinema, and MakeMake — the same team behind The Matrix dome launch. By merging cutting-edge display technology with cinematic storytelling, they are setting new standards in entertainment.

Details of the Dome Screening Event

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory will premiere in Cosm’s shared reality format on November 21 in Los Angeles and Dallas. Tickets go on sale September 23, and based on the sell-out success of The Matrix, demand is expected to be high.

Alexis Scalice, Vice President of Business Development and Entertainment at Cosm, said the project blends “nostalgia, innovation, and immersion” to create a family-friendly experience like no other. Warner Bros. Pictures’ Jeff Goldstein echoed this, saying that after audiences embraced the dome debut of The Matrix, Willy Wonka was the obvious next choice from their catalog of iconic films.

MakeMake’s Creative Director Kirk Shintani emphasized the creative and technical innovation behind the experience: “With Cosm’s tools and our love for the source material, we’ve crafted something truly one-of-a-kind.”

Looking Ahead: The Future of Shared Reality Cinema

Cosm’s LED dome technology isn’t just a new way to watch movies — it’s a new way to live them. The Willy Wonka dome event demonstrates how immersive formats can revive classic cinema, creating a shared emotional journey that resonates across generations. As this format continues to evolve, more beloved stories may soon find new life under the dome.
