LG Electronics has supplied fire-safe LED display solutions for the new Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport, including two large-format LED screens installed in the Marketplace duty-free area behind the airport’s security checkpoint. The project required display systems capable of meeting strict airport safety standards while delivering reliable long-term visual performance in a high-traffic commercial environment.

The project features two LG LHCB025-YN LED displays, each delivering a resolution of 6,240 × 1,485 pixels. Designed for high-traffic commercial environments, the displays provide sharp image reproduction and stable visual performance under the complex lighting conditions commonly found in airport retail spaces.
According to the project information, LG was selected after multiple technical solutions were evaluated for the security-sensitive Marketplace installation areas.
A key aspect of the Frankfurt Airport project was compliance with strict safety standards required for airport environments. The installation required components suitable for safety-critical applications and designed to help slow the spread of fire in emergency situations.
LG’s LED display solution complies with VdS 6024, a European fire safety standard for electrical and electronic systems. The products also meet the requirements of the CE Low Voltage Directive and the CE Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, confirming compliance with European safety and EMC regulations.
As airports continue expanding large-scale digital signage infrastructure, fire safety certification and long-term operational reliability are becoming increasingly important factors in display system selection.
The Terminal 3 installation was commissioned by Media Frankfurt, the company responsible for managing advertising concepts and commercial media spaces throughout Frankfurt Airport.
Technical implementation and systems integration were completed in collaboration with Ben Hur GmbH.
Nicolas Min, head of the information display business at LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, said airports require display solutions capable of operating reliably around the clock while maintaining high standards for safety, durability, and image quality. He added that the Frankfurt Airport Terminal 3 project demonstrates LG’s ability to deliver tailored display solutions for high-traffic commercial environments.
The Frankfurt Airport project also highlights the growing adoption of advanced LED display systems in transportation hubs worldwide. Beyond Germany, LG’s commercial displays and digital signage solutions have also been deployed in airports across Italy, Hungary, South Korea, the United States, Argentina, Australia, and the UAE.
Compared with traditional LCD signage, direct-view LED displays offer advantages such as higher brightness, seamless scalability, wider viewing angles, and improved visibility in large public environments. As airports continue modernizing retail and passenger communication areas, demand for high-reliability and safety-certified LED display solutions is expected to increase further.
