A Global Launch for a Global Tournament

Adidas kicked off the unveiling of the Official Match Ball for FIFA World Cup 26 in grand style, lighting up the Exosphere of Sphere Las Vegas with a breathtaking visual journey through World Cup history. The show traced the evolution of every official World Cup ball since 1970, beginning with the iconic Telstar, the first football designed for a tournament broadcast in color television.

The Exosphere display brought to life classic designs such as the Tango (Argentina 1978), the Azteca (Mexico 1986), and the Jabulani (South Africa 2010), before culminating in the dramatic reveal of Trionda, the newest addition to Adidas’s legendary lineup.

“Trionda” — Symbol of Unity Across Three Nations

The newly unveiled Trionda draws inspiration from the three host nations of the 2026 FIFA World Cup — Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Its name combines “Tri,” meaning three, and “Onda,” derived from the Spanish and Italian word for “wave” or “energy.” Together, “Trionda” represents the flowing energy and unity connecting the three nations and the global football community.

Each of Trionda’s panels features a unique combination of colors taken from the host nations’ flags — red, white, blue, and green — along with symbolic icons: a star for the USA, a maple leaf for Canada, and an eagle for Mexico.

According to Adidas, the design embodies “the shared energy, diversity, and spirit of North America,” setting the tone for what will be the largest FIFA World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams across 16 cities.

Global Celebrations in New York, Toronto, and Mexico City

To mark the occasion, Adidas hosted simultaneous launch events in three major host cities — New York, Toronto, and Mexico City.

At Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York, football legends Alessandro Del Piero (Italy), Cafu (Brazil), Jürgen Klinsmann (Germany), Xavi (Spain), and Zinedine Zidane (France) joined thousands of fans as a Trionda hologram illuminated the night sky.

In Toronto, crowds gathered at Roundhouse Park, beneath the iconic CN Tower, to witness another Trionda holographic display, while fans in Mexico City celebrated with a vibrant projection show that combined football, culture, and light.

The Sphere: Where Sport Meets Technology

The choice of Sphere Las Vegas — the world’s largest spherical LED display — underscores how immersive media is transforming global sports marketing. The Exosphere’s 1.2 million programmable LED pucks with 57.6 million pixels in total allowed Adidas to transform the skyline into a 360-degree storytelling canvas, merging digital art and sporting heritage in a way never before seen in World Cup history.

As excitement builds ahead of FIFA World Cup 26, the unveiling of Trionda marks both a celebration of the past and a bold step into the future of football innovation.
