LED Studio Successfully Tests Drone-Mounted LED Curtain Display

Optronics Industry | 2025-10-10

Recently, LED Studio has successfully tested the flight of its drone-mounted LED curtain display — an ultra-lightweight, ultra-thin, and highly transparent mesh display designed for live shows, cultural landmarks, and outdoor visual storytelling.

Reimagining Visual Storytelling from the Sky

Built to merge aerial mobility with large-scale LED visuals, the LED curtain display introduces a new creative dimension for designers and event producers. LED Studio believes this airborne display technology could transform how audiences experience light and motion, especially in dynamic environments such as festivals, public celebrations, and architectural showcases.

Ultra-Lightweight, Transparent, and Built for the Outdoors

Weighing only 1.2 kilograms per square metre, the LED curtain display’s slim mesh construction minimizes drone payload and supports stable, low-altitude flight. Engineered with up to 70% transparency and high wind permeability, it delivers both visual clarity and aerodynamic performance in open-air conditions.

The system’s modular design allows scalable screen configurations through multi-piece splicing, with standard sizes ranging from 2×4 metres (8 sq m) to 4×10 metres (40 sq m). Its 50,000-hour lifespan and IP65 weatherproof rating ensure long-term reliability for demanding outdoor applications.

Portable, Scalable, and Easy to Deploy

Despite its size, the LED curtain display is designed with practicality in mind. The structure can fold or roll down to a compact volume of 90 square metres per cubic metre, significantly reducing transport and labour costs. This makes it ideal for touring productions, live performances, or fast-turnaround installations where efficiency is essential.

The display also offers multiple content control options — including a dedicated app, USB, PC live WiFi, or 4G connection — enabling both pre-scheduled playback and real-time programme updates at the touch of a button.

Flight Performance and Integration

The LED curtain display is compatible with RF5 drone models, supporting payloads up to 50 kilograms. Even when fully equipped, the drone maintains a flight endurance of around 20 minutes, long enough for choreographed aerial shows, synchronised visuals, or promotional flyovers.

This integration of LED display and aerial control technology opens the door to new creative possibilities — from branded sky performances to immersive public art displays.

Innovation Beyond the Screen

Rob Bint, CEO of LED Studio, commented:

“As a company that lives and breathes innovation in LED, we’re always exploring what new mediums, formats, and technologies will define the future of visual experience. Drone-lifted LED curtains stretch the boundaries of what’s possible. They have the potential to change how we approach events, live shows, and even architectural storytelling.
Our goal isn’t just to build displays — it’s to lead the conversation about where LED can go, and how it can reshape the spaces and skies around us.”
