Optronics Industry | 2025-07-02

When travelers step into the Clarion Hotel Helsinki Airport, they’re not just checking in—they’re stepping into a vision of the future. In partnership with PPDS, one of Europe’s most ambitious hospitality technology deployments has reshaped what guests and conference organizers can expect from a hotel stay. From immersive LED walls to personalized in-room experiences, Clarion has woven a seamless digital fabric that elevates comfort, productivity, and sustainability alike.

Clarion Hotel Helsinki

Reinventing Guest Entertainment with Smart Displays

Clarion Hotel Helsinki Airport, operated by Strawberry Hotels, is more than a convenient stopover beside Vantaa Airport. With over 500 luxurious guest rooms, it’s now home to 778 Philips MediaSuite UHD TVs—each preloaded with Google Cast and Android capabilities. The displays empower guests to access their favorite streaming services, browse thousands of apps, and enjoy content in their preferred language.

More than simply offering television, the system creates an individualized digital experience. Through the Speeron NEXT guest portal, every visitor can effortlessly navigate entertainment options ranging from live channels to Netflix, reflecting Clarion’s commitment to making each stay feel uniquely personal.

Setting a New Standard for Sustainable Technology

This transformation wasn’t driven by novelty alone. Sustainability is central to Strawberry Hotels’ identity, and the project was meticulously planned to align with their ISO 14001 environmental certification. Philips MediaSuite displays are designed for longevity, receiving regular Android updates that extend their usable lifespan and minimize waste.

Even the installation approach was devised to cut down on unnecessary hardware—eliminating external dongles and excess cabling—reducing both electronic waste and the risk of tampering or theft. By embracing smart, connected displays, Clarion proves that premium guest experiences and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

LED at the Heart of Business Impact

While guest rooms received a remarkable digital upgrade, the hotel’s conferencing capabilities were equally transformed. At the heart of this evolution is LED technology. PPDS supplied the newly launched 135” Philips Unite LED All-in-One display—an enormous canvas engineered to deliver crystal-clear presentations and striking visuals for conferences and events.

Three additional Philips Public 7000 Series LED walls were integrated into the conference center, each installed with custom mounting systems that blend them into stylish wood-accented walls. These LED displays are more than aesthetic centerpieces—they enable impactful communication for everything from small meetings to large-scale exhibitions. Their unique standby mode consumes just 0.5W, underscoring Clarion’s drive to reduce energy use without sacrificing performance.

Seamless Digital Signage for Wayfinding and Communication

Across the property, Clarion deployed a network of Philips Q-Line and Modular D-Line signage displays, ranging from 75” to an impressive 98” in size. These screens support dynamic wayfinding, event schedules, and branded messaging, ensuring that guests are always informed and engaged.

The entire ecosystem is orchestrated by an intuitive AV control solution from Audico Systems, giving hotel staff the power to update content and manage displays with ease. Whether it’s a welcome message or a real-time schedule change, the signage platform keeps the hotel connected and responsive.

A Blueprint for the Future of Hospitality

As the Clarion Hotel Helsinki Airport opens its doors, it doesn’t merely welcome travelers—it introduces them to a new paradigm of what hospitality can be. Through the strategic deployment of advanced LED displays and intelligent media solutions, PPDS and Strawberry Hotels have redefined the possibilities for entertainment and business in one of Europe’s most vibrant travel hubs.

Nils Brovold, Sales Manager Hospitality Nordics at PPDS, summed it up: “Clarion had the rare opportunity to start with a blank canvas. Together, we’ve built an environment that is as sustainable and efficient as it is immersive and inspiring.”
