Christmas has always been an important traditional festival in the West. In addition to the lively Christmas Eve and Santa Claus delivering Christmas gifts, there will also be various celebrations in the period before Christmas. The Now Building, a famous tourist attraction near the Center Point, London, used its 16K ultra-high-definition LED wall to create a giant digital advent calendar to countdown for the coming Christmas. It is reported that the LED advent calendar was designed by Pixel Artworks for the travel search engine Skyscanner, providing a variety of prizes for global travel, and visiting tourists have a great chance to get a free trip around the world.

What is the Advent calendar?

The Advent calendar is a calendar used to count down the days until Christmas. In fact, Christmas is a festival to commemorate the birth of Jesus, so it is not difficult to get the idea why the calendar that counts down to Christmas is called an Advent calendar.

The Advent calendar starts from the first Sunday of Advent, that is, from the Sunday closest to November 30, until Christmas. For the sake of simplicity, modern Advent calendars usually start from December 1. The calendar is mostly made of paper boxes, with 24 separated small grids or small pockets corresponding to 24 days. A small door can be opened every day to take out the gifts from the grid. Traditional gifts are chapters or quotations from the Bible, while modern gifts are mainly chocolates, Christmas cookies or candies, and there are also small toys such as candles. Calendars can be decorated with different themes, but they are mainly related to winter and Christmas.
