Recently, the world’s first permanent full LED basketball court was unveiled at the BMW Park, the home of the FC Bayern’s basketball team in Munich, Germany.
The basketball court has a surface area of 580 square meters and uses ASB GlassFloor’s new ASB material glass panels, with millions of LED pixels installed underneath to provide real-time dynamic video content for basketball games. It is reported that this cooperation will last until 2030 and the LED floor becomes the world’s first and currently the largest permanent full LED basketball court.
In fact, as early as September last year, the Bayern Munich basketball team used the LED screen venue provided by ASB GlassFloor in the opening game of the German Basketball League. This was also the world’s first top basketball game held on an LED video glass floor. The game also prompted the NBA to use the LED screen glass surface for the first time in the 2024 All-Star Game.
According to relevant technical personnel from ASB GlassFloor, they equipped the venue with the specially developed GlassCourt software platform, which enables this full-LED screen basketball court to play animations during the game, especially during pre-game performances, halftime breaks and game pauses, and replace the team logos of traditional basketball courts with more emotional video information, and play real-time game data.
In addition, the full LED glass court also incorporates a position tracking function, which can instantly obtain the player’s position information, and achieve accurate position tracking and visualization. With the support of AI artificial intelligence technology, players can obtain their own running information based on real-time monitoring data, and analyze the best passing options or best defensive positions in the game without the involvement of coaches, which can greatly improve the player’s training level and enhance the player’s rationality of running, passing and receiving.
Another advantage of ASB GlassFloor is that, unlike ordinary LED glass courts, its surface can also provide a certain degree of elasticity for basketball players, thereby better protecting the joints of basketball players. The ceramic dots embedded in the glass also provide excellent grip to prevent basketball players from sports injuries caused by frequent slips.
It is reported that ASB GlassFloor is headquartered in Upper Bavaria, Germany, and the BMW Park Stadium in Munich is also located in the region, so the two are not far apart. In contrast, Christof Babinsky, general manager of ASB GlassFloor, said that they will follow up on the feedback from Bayern basketball players in a timely manner to further optimize the relevant technology and software of the full LED screen basketball court.
In addition, he said that the use of full LED basketball courts will help expand basketball in the advertising field and bring more interesting and meaningful dynamic advertising content to the audience. Of course, the primary goal of using full LED basketball courts is still to enhance the athlete’s experience and link advertising information with relevant performance data. By enhancing the excitement of basketball through more story-rich dynamic content, it can replace the static logo on the traditional basketball court, bring more visually attractive content to the audience, and bring additional brand gains to sponsors.
It is reported that in addition to hosting regular basketball games, the BMW Park will also host other sports events, corporate events, roller discos, entertainment, concerts and other activities, which requires unique visual effects with the full LED floor.
